Cassette Tapes: Cassettes are no longer available as of 9/25/98. Sorry

These were limited edition, cassette only releases. We made them one at a time per order and tries to keep the Austin stores Sound Exchange and 33 Degrees stocked. Sometimes only a handful were ever made.

GHR 37 ANTARCTICA Cassette
Malcolm Hamilton joins Ernest Salaz, Lino Max and Paul Streckfus to freeze everything once and for all. This collection of songs was written for a single performance in January 98. It has a more pop approach, but for Antarctica who usually specializes in non structured ambient stuff, it’s a real surprise to the unexpecting. Jet planes, visitors, trans ams, are offered to appease the gods of unholy inspiration. 30 minutes

GHR 33 THE SEARCH PARTY Cassette
Grinding stars for my little moon baby in a cage, sometimes science is strange. Eight songs recorded in Nov. 97

GHR 31 THE BROWNIE POINTS Cassette
A mix tape of 4 track and live recordings. “The ‘Points” broke up way too soon. These songs were recorded over a weekend of heavy mushroom-eating.

GHR 30 THE SEARCH PARTY Cassette
Includes their hits Angel Dust, Unexpected Journey and Warm Leather. Hands off my threads. 30 minutes

GHR 29 GLORIUM CD
Eclipse CD
The language of Eclipse speaks of lights, shadows, myth, the power of the mind. It sleeps with the genetically inherited dreams from an astronautical ancestor. It behaves without thought of future nows or circumstantial evidence. Without foresight, it is naive and delicate. That is where its power lies. So relax your muscles and your mind and dream…

GHR 28 GLORIUM 7″
“Black Market Hearts” b/w “Walkie Talkie” 7″ vinyl 45
Produced by John Croslin.

GHR 27 SILVER APPLES Cassette
Live at the Electric Lounge, Jan. 15, 1998.
I couldn’t resist bootlegging my favorite back from the grave disney animatronic art rocker. Simeon was in a great mood and came off cool as ice, tuff as sun dried leather, spacey yet rooted in 60s psychedelia that spawned today’s electronic resurgence. Hear the original analog techno that first became the official band of New York in ’69. 60 minutes

GHR 26 THE GIANT Cassette
Love Songs
Ernest Salaz solo recording sessions in Houston and D.C. Sparce and melancholic, sure to make you shiver silver dew drops on your golden floor as you fall into the warm arms of your mercury love.

GHR 25 THE SEARCH PARTY Cassette
Three moving through a field of diamonds to a starlight road. The invisible ties that bind us, might untie us.
Includes a cover of Suicide’s “Ghost Rider”

GHR 24 CYRUS REGO/ FIRE ISLAND Cassette
Recorded in Oct. 97 and Jan. 98. Cyrus played at Electric Lounge opening for Silver Apples; Fire Island, better known as that brit synth pop star Nikki Holiday from the Prima Donnas performed solo at Spider House with video collage aiding his cinematic soundtrack project. Or is it musak for future cafés?

GHR 23 DRUMS AND TUBA Cassette
At the Hole in the Wall
Three guys who blend their own jazz with blue note covers and add swanky guitar. It’s a colorful cinematic experience, like taking 18 hits of acid in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, getting lost in Cemetary No.1, and finding yourself in Honey Island Swamp propping open the mouth of a gator with an old chair leg. 48 minutes

GHR 22 THE CRACK PIPES Cassette
Six 4-track solos
The gogo kings of the new R and B, punk fusion hi-octane rockers fueled by the bootleg booze and teen jesus puberty (post and modern) sick with a nu blus fever

GHR 21 THE SEARCH PARTY Cassette
Paul Streckfus, Malcolm Hamilton and Lauren Robertson explore the possibilities, and set sail afloat a sea of milk white snow. Search Party have a 79 – 81 post-punk feel. This tape is more ambient though without the human-element interruption of voices or singing. Recorded Aug., Sep., and Nov. ’97

The Yeah Sound
A harsh collection of raw bluesy rawk, pop gospel…..20 minutes.

GHR 18 THE PONCE JA JA Cassette
The First And The Last
Recorded by Kevin Allen. Rainy guitars, drums in formation, bilingual lyrics suggest doing it all over again, and why not? Musicians are Jeremy Rueter, Laurie Duke, and Jason Tasset. The group later went on to form Union On Track and bake moon cakes for hungry ghosts.

GHR 17 WINDSOR FOR THE DERBY Cassette
Recorded live in Austin, before they moved to NYC, and then moved back to Austin. Now you can hear them un-produced, unmixed, and un-remixed, but never, unrehearsed. One of the songs from this show appears on their EP “Metropolitan then Poland”……40 minutes

GHR 16 10196 Cassette
Paul Streckfus, Jason McNeely, Chris Goyer, John Monge, Jason Reese and Conrad Keely. Recorded live on New Years Eve and in studio space. Spooky. What started out as a more ambient project ended up as a chaotic, explosive, free for all, after a little too much New Year’s joy…..30 minutes

GHR 15 EL SANTO Cassette
Recorded live on tour ’93. 11 songs of fancy Texas punk by Marshall Gause, Manny Castillo, Aaron Forland, and Terence Brown. Right before they broke up and on the road across the U.S. with Glorium for a tour of America’s most unscene sights. Kind of reminds me of Minutemen, and ZZ Top, but maybe that’s just an easier way to describe these guys’ original sound. Contains their hits from their first EP and lots of unreleased material like “Butterside Down”.

GHR 14 GLORIUM Cassette
Club Chit Chat
Includes demo versions of Us + the Bad Past, and Moonbeam King from the CD “Close Your Eyes”, and more previously unreleased music. 30 minutes
This was the third in a series of cassettes that the group sold and traded while on tour.

GHR 13 THE PRIMA DONNAS Cassette
Recorded live on KVRX…48 minutes of eurosynth-attitude from Otto Matik, Julius Seizure, and Nikki Holiday, those saucy Brits think that they’re the best thing since Depeche Mode and Yaz, but maybe they’ve seen Spinal Tap too many times. This group of songs is what gave them the attention they deserved in a guitar obsessed roots rock town. Includes “Cock Sucking Machine” and “Song For All the World’s Children” and other new wave hits, and a rare interview.

GHR 12 …AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD Cassette
Surely one of the most exciting and dangerous live bands in Austin, they have been turning heads and sending the audience ducking for cover since Conrad Keely and Jason Reese moved here from Olympia WA in 1995. They mix textured guitars with smooth samples and rapid-fire drumming. These guys would produce the most over the top excessive quadruple LP if given the chance. Songs on the cassette are An Ounce of Prevention, Angela Scalpel, December Hatred, A Perfect Teenhood and Gargoyle Waiting. 1997. Recorded on Ben Caulfield’s 4 Track. Produced by Kevin Allen and Conrad Keely. 31 minutes.

GHR 10 ANTARCTICA Cassette
Self Titled
30 minutes of noisy songs from Paul Streckfus, Lino Max and Ernest Salaz. …a spiritual sojourn into the heart of a hellish desert, at the bottom of the earth, at the bottom of your soul…where deep space existence is as close as your icy grave.

GHR 05 THE NEW GIRL ART TREND BAND Cassette
A Certain Sacrifice
Sarah Carlson, Jon Rueter, Mary Becky Cortez, Joey Caperton, Kristin Schilt, The legends, recorded by Tod Ledford. He says of the project, “They wanted to do a few songs on 4 track, but then ended up asking to spend an hour perfecting the subtlties on each little track.” The results are garagy, and from the heart. An urgent struggle to create is captured on magnetic tape. Their stage sets looked like Broadway musicals, or street theatre actions. 11 songs, 30 minutes.
